Ivan Diaz-Rainey is a financial energy economist with broad-ranging research and teaching interests. He has recently returned to the UK to complete his doctorate after serving as Finance Faculty for two years at Abu Dhabi Mens College, Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), United Arab Emirates. Prior to Joining HCT, Ivan lectured in Taxation at the Norwich Business School (NBS), University of East Anglia, where he also worked as a Senior Research Associate on projects related to UK Energy Policy. Ivan is close to completing his PhD at NBS on energy policy and the diffusion of green energy innovations. Before moving into academia, Ivan worked as an investment 'sell-side' analyst, business analyst and tax/management consultant. He is a member of the United Kingdom Society of Investment Professionals, the CFA Institute and the Association of Taxation Technicians. He holds an M.Sc. in Investment Analysis (Stirling) and an M.A. (Hons) in Economics and Politics (Edinburgh). Ivan is bilingual in English and Spanish and has lived and worked in the UK, Canada, Peru, Colombia and the UAE.

FUNDING/CONSULTANCY
2005 Abu Dhabi Securities Market (ADSM) issued a Request For Proposals to develop and deliver a professional investment qualification for brokers and analysts in the United Arab Emirates. Presented proposal with colleagues to ADSMs Chief Operating Officer and Development Board. Outcome: A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by HCT and ADSM to proceed with the project, estimated to be worth 1,200,000 AED (£184,000) per annum.
2004 Powergen were looking to commission a follow on study from that in 2003 (see below) focused on the incentive component of energy policy. Involvement included: a literature review on fiscal incentives in energy markets, questionnaire design for a national survey and statistical analysis. Outcome: In a joint application with UEA's School of Environmental Sciences funding of £121,870 was secured and the project was completed successfully and on schedule. The report was launched at a gathering of the policy community with keynote speaker Martin O'Neill MP, Chair of the Trade and Industry Select Committee (2004). See Publications, above
2003 Powergen were looking to commission a study on UK energy policy, domestic energy use and attitudes towards the environment. Involvement included: writing the proposal and presenting to Powergen executives, a literature review on energy efficiency policy, questionnaire design for a national survey, statistical analysis, running focus groups and writing up the report. Outcome: In a joint application with UEA's School of Environmental Sciences funding of £149,775 was secured and the project was completed successfully and on schedule.
